Wickham Fruit Farm.jpg
28700 Route 25, Cutchogue, NY, United States

Wickham’s Fruit Farm is located on 28700 Route 25 in Cutchogue, Long Island, about 90 miles east of New York City. Wickham’s fruit is grown on some of the oldest continually cultivated land in the country, much of the farm dating from 1661. Wickham’s Fruit Farm is an historic, bicentennial farm, beautiful to behold against the sparkling waters of Peconic Bay.

It is one of the largest farms on the North Fork, approximately 300 acres, of which 200 acres are in fruit, all of which is retailed at the farm. The emphasis is on fruit of the highest quality, and all fruit sold is guaranteed.

A very large proportion of Wickham farm land has been placed in Suffolk County’s Farmland Preservation program, which means that for generations to come, this land is “forever agriculture.”
Wickham’s Fruit Farm is a family enterprise which has taken pride in producing and marketing the choicest of fruit. The retail market is open usually from May through December from Monday through Saturday.

Wickham’s is closed on Sundays, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas.
Schools and private groups who book a tour in advance can schedule a tour of the farm to pick fruit in season, enjoy the scenic beauty of a farm on the water, observe a live working beehive, and when possible, observe our old historic cider press.

Hawk Mountain Logo.jpg
1700 Hawk Mountain Road, Kempton, PA, United States

Hawk Mountain is the ideal outdoor destination. The 2,600-acre Sanctuary offers superb hiking in every season, the chance to see large numbers of hawks, eagles and falcons each autumn, and in spring, the chance to enjoy comfortable weather, Mountain Laurel blooms, and returning songbirds. Hawk Mountain Sanctuary is the world`s first refuge for birds of prey, and a leader in the study and protection of our magnificent hawks, eagles and falcons.

At Hawk Mountain, we know first hand how moved people are to see a hawk soar across the sky. That`s why raptors, or “birds of prey” make such a compelling focus for learning. Here, we study birds of prey, monitor their annual, amazing migrations, and use our findings to train young conservationists and educate the public.

To help connect more people with nature and, in particular, birds of prey, Hawk Mountain operates a 2,600-acre Sanctuary open to the public year-round. But whether the birds fly or not, Hawk Mountain still boasts an incredible view, 8 miles of trails and its rich conservation legacy. Some highlights:

Kalmar Nyckel Wilmington Delaware.jpg
1124 E 7th St, Wilmington, DE, United States

The Original Kalmar Nyckel

The original Kalmar Nyckel was one of America’s pioneering colonial ships. Its historical significance rivals that of the Mayflower, yet her remarkable story has never been widely told.

Did you know…

The original Kalmar Nyckel sailed from Sweden to the New World in 1638 leaving its passengers to establish the first permanent European settlement in the Delaware Valley, the Colony of New Sweden in present-day Wilmington, Delaware. She made a total of four roundtrip crossings of the Atlantic—more than any other ship of the era. Her first voyage to the New World left 24 settlers of Swedish, Finnish, German and Dutch descent in the Delaware Valley. Joining them was a black freedman who sailed from the Caribbean aboard her companion ship the Fogel Grip.

The Present Day Kalmar Nyckel

The present day Kalmar Nyckel serves as Delaware’s seagoing goodwill ambassador. She was built by a group of committed citizens to be a continuing witness to the courage and spirit of those individuals who undertook the mid-winter North Atlantic crossing in 1637-1638.

Since 1998, the ship has served as an outreach platform for the State of Delaware and a catalyst for social and economic development. The ship provides a unique platform for the Foundation’s educational programming as well as a venue for diplomatic, recreational, governmental and commemorative functions. The ship is owned and operated by the Kalmar NyckelFoundation, a non-profit organization that offers people of all ages a variety of sea and land based learning and recreational experiences.

Public Sails and Tours

Come Aboard - Bow Shot

Enjoy a Timeless Adventure!

Sail on Kalmar Nyckel:

The Kalmar Nyckel offers a wide array of sailing opportunities — from April through October.   Guests are invited to haul lines, set sails, and enjoy tales of the original Kalmar Nyckel  — or become a “pirate” with the crew on special pirate sails.

To choose your sail, please click on the Sail/Tour Schedule on your left and browse by date or location. While tickets may also be purchased at the dock prior to a scheduled sail, it is best to make reservations.  That way you can be sure there is room and so we have your contact information in case a sail is cancelled due to weather concerns. To reserve your tickets, please call the Kalmar Nyckel office at (302) 429-7447.

In Chestertown, Kalmar Nyckel will be participating in the Sultana’s Downrigging Weekend November 1st through 4th.  Join the tall ship fleet for a sail down the Chester River, lined with gorgeous fall colors.  For information about the festival and tickets to sail please visithttp://www.sultanaprojects.com/downrigging/index.htm

Pirate Sails

Ahoy Mateys! Come Sail on Kalmar Nyckel, the Tall Ship of Delaware. Landlubbers — come walk the plank of this authentic seagoing re-creation of a 17th-Century Dutch Pinnace.  Our crew don pirate and sailor garb, and guests are encouraged to dress up as well!  The kids will enjoy a pirate story or help raise the Jolly Roger, and the adults will enjoy a history talk.  Both kids and adults can try their hand at a scavenger hunt with a treasure at the end!  See the ship’s cannons and imagine being at the helm of this magnificent vessel.  Join our captain and a crew of salty pirates for a festive experience on the high seas! Visit our Sail/Tour Schedule for more information.

Tour Kalmar Nyckel

In select locations, join the crew for a memorable deck tour of Kalmar Nyckel.  Our crew will talk with guests about the ship, its special place in history and what made it unique in 1638 and today.  Kids can ring our ship’s bell, march around the capstan, and steer the ship using the whipstaff (1630’s helm technology predating the wheel).  Check out her carvings from the dock before you step aboard.  The stern carvings are all newly-painted with period-correct hues, and our gilded figurehead, “Leo the Lion,” shows his fierce teeth!  These 10-15 minute tours are offered for a nominal charge.  Please visit our Sail/Tour Schedule for more information.

For more information, please contact us at:

Please note that due to the nature of the weather and conditions beyond our control, the Ship’s schedule is subject to change without notice.

Plimoth Plantation.jpg
137 Warren Avenue, Plymouth, MA, United States

Family Field Trips at Plimoth Plantation offer a fascinating and personal look at the lives of the Native Wampanoag People and the Pilgrims, the English who lived in early Plymouth Colony. In addition to a self-guided Museum tour, School groups have a number of options for tailoring their visit. School Groups with a specific interest, such as early gardens, period cookery, colonial religion, Native culture, timber-frame construction, or navigation, may book a speaker through our Professional Speakers Bureau or a Guided Tour.

Our historical theme dining turns what might otherwise be just another restaurant meal into a memorable (and tasty!) addition to your visit. We offer themed meals with Pilgrim and or Native hosts, and lunch or dinner with food historians who will teach you just how Miles Standish ate his dinner without a fork. For more about historical or modern-day dining opportunities, go to our Dining page.

The staff at the Henry Hornblower II Visitor Center welcome you to Plimoth Plantation. Purchase tickets or membership here, then view the orientation film produced for Plimoth Plantation by the History Channel. This prepares you for the unique experience of visiting our outdoor living history sites, which tell the compelling story of the Pilgrims and the Native Wampanoag people.

Plimoth Plantation museum shops

The Visitor Center houses our Museum Shops that offer a range of products from one-of a-kind Native art and jewelry, to children’s toys and books, specialty foods and an array of items made in New England.

Also in the Visitor Center you can visit the Shelby Cullom Davis Gallery and the Family Discovery Center, where fun is driven by imagination as children can try on Colonial clothes, play Native games and raise the flag aboard the shallop. The gallery also featuresGirl Playing in the Family Discovery Center at Plimoth Plantation

Thanksgiving: Memory, Myth and Meaning, a self-guided exhibit which tells the story about the 1621 events that continue to inspire America’s annual Thanksgiving holiday.

Our quick-service restaurant, Patuxet Café,features menu items adapted from both the Colonial English and Native cultures, as well as the more familiar modern snacks and meals to please diners of all ages and palates. Enjoy your meal in our spacious dining room, or when weather permits, take your food outside to the courtyard, or have a picnic on the lawn that overlooks a beautiful view of the Eel River and Cape Cod Bay.

Designed by architect Graham Gund, the Hornblower Visitor Center is also available for functions. It’s the perfect setting for your wedding, party or conference. Classrooms on the second floor accommodate education programs, workshops, business meetings and dining for small groups. In our theaters we show first-run, independent and foreign films daily in late afternoon and evening.

In the winter months, when our outdoor exhibits are closed, the Visitor Center is still a lively place where we host the Plymouth Winter Farmers’ Market and other activities and programs as announced on our calendar.

Discovery Center

Where do young children go to have fun and learn more about how the Pilgrims and Wampanoag lived in Colonial times? The Family Discovery Station – where imagination creates the experience!

Here, children get to try on Colonial clothes, pretend to cook in a hearth, and learn how Pilgrim children ate their meals off of trenchers without using a fork. Discover how the Wampanoag built their homes and grew many types of vegetables before the Pilgrims settled here. Do you think catching fish is easy? Learn how the Wampanoag built a weir (a fence made of brush) to trap fish in a river.

Climb aboard the shallop (a small boat), raise the flag, and chart your course on a traverse board (a wooden board used in navigation), just like the one used by the sailors aboard the Mayflower to keep track of their course and speed at sea.

Everything in the Family Discovery Station is designed for children to touch, try on, play with and experience, including games and a puppet theater. And be sure to check the daily activity board for a story hour. The Family Discovery Station is a great way for young children to journey back in time.

Programs For Families

Plimoth Plantation offers lots of special activities for kids and families – you can experience the past hands-on when you are here!

Girls make Wampanoag pottery

During school vacations, you can always choose from a variety of Wampanoag (Native) and Pilgrim (Colonial) activities. During the summer, we have week-long day programs called Summer Adventures!

You will enjoy an evening of activities (Wampanoag or Pilgrim) here at the Museum, (including dinner) spend the night in the Hornblower Visitor Center, and visit Plimoth Plantation for two days!

Your family could have an even more special family overnight experience, living as a Colonial family wearing authentic clothing, cooking supper over the hearth, and sleeping in one of our Pilgrim homes!

We have lots of online activities for kids, including a special Interactive Thanksgiving Activity called You Are the Historian: Investigating the First Thanksgiving.

Family Overnights in the 17th Century

Looking for a very special overnight experience with your family or friends? Sleep in the 17th Century at Plimoth Plantation, or Sleep onMayflower II in Plymouth Harbor!

Sleep Like the Pilgrims

Come to visit our fun and educational living history exhibit sites early in the day, then join us in the afternoon to begin your Pilgrim experience. As English Colonists, you will be provided with authentic reproduction Colonial clothing. After you are dressed, you will begin experiencing the fun and the work of the 17th century!

Play games, write with a quill pen, even learn a song or a dance if you’d like! Activities will be tailored to your particular interests. Gather wood and get ready to set a fire, because…

Sleep overnight as a Pilgrim at Plimoth Plantation

…you will assist in preparing a hearth-cooked meal in our reproduction Colonial homes on our Colonial Education Site. Here, you’ll eat “supper” and spend the night, sleeping in authentic beds by a warm hearth. (The homes in our Education site were originally built by the Museum’s skilled artisans at a location on the coast of Maine, for the PBS-TV reality seriesColonial House. After the series ended, we dismantled the homes and reconstructed them at our Colonial Education site.)

A Museum teacher will teach you all you need to know, and will sleep nearby. Your group will have the privacy of the home to yourselves all night. In the morning, your teacher will bring you a continental breakfast (yes, with coffee — although the Colonists in the 1620s had only water…)

Sleep overnight as a Pilgrim at Plimoth Plantation

Join us for this magical, unforgettable experience.

Cost: $1000 for up to six people.

For more information, or to reserve a program, call us at (508) 503-2653 or email groupsales@plimoth.org, or make an online reservation request.

Sleep on Mayflower II

Rowing the ship's boat at Mayflower II

Yes, you read it correctly! You and your family or friends can spend the night on our full-scale reproduction of Mayflower, the well-known ship which brought the English Colonists to the shores of New England.  Mayflower II is docked in downtown Plymouth, at the same location the Pilgrims chose to build their first homes in 1620. All of our entertaining and educational living history exhibit sites will be available for you to visit both days of your stay.

After the rest of the visitors have left for the day, the ship is yours. You could row the shallop in the harbor, make a model of the ship to take home, learn to tie the knots the sailors would have used in 1620, or even try the foods the Pilgrims would have eaten on their way here from England! If that doesn’t sound like an ideal meal, don’t worry — we will provide a 21st-century meal, too! Spend your time with Museum teachers and marine artisans, who can teach you all you want to know about the Pilgrims’ 17th-century journey, and the journey of Mayflower II, which sailed here from England in 1957. The conversations and activities will be tailored to the interests and needs of your family and friends.

If you have the inclination, the decks always need to be swabbed. You may just have enough energy to explore the many decks of the ship, and then choose which one will be the place you make your bed for the night. Watching the sun set behind the masts and rigging of the ship is spectacular, but not outdone by the glow of the sun rising over historic Plymouth.

Please join us for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

For more information about cost and availability, or to reserve a program, call us at (508) 503-2653 or email groupsales@plimoth.org.

The party is scheduled for an hour and a half which allows plenty of time to eat cake and ice cream and to open gifts.  After the party, participants can enjoy exploring through the Zoo and time playing on Ben’s Red Swings playground.
Wild Parties take place in the ESBA Education Center and can be scheduled year-round. Because the party takes place inside, the program is not weather-dependent.
