Advance reservations are required for many of our trips or programs. Please call us or stop by so we can assist you in planning the perfect sea kayaking adventure. Full payment is due at the time of reservation.


Sea kayaking is an all-weather sport and trips are conducted in a variety of conditions, which may include fog, rain or wind. Full refunds will be given in the event of inclement weather at the discretion of the staff. Cancellations must be made 24 hours before the scheduled departure time or are subject to a $25 per person service charge. No shows will be charged the full cost of the trip.

What we provide:

We will supply you with all the necessary instruction, paddling and safety equipment needed for an enjoyable and exciting experience. Our equipment is of the highest quality and comfortable for every level kayaker from beginner to expert.

What you should bring:

Shorts, shirt and windbreaker – sandals or sneakers (they will get wet) – hat – water – sunglasses – sunscreen and bug repellent – Spirit of Adventure!

Situated on 26 acres in Cape Neddick, Maine Dixon’s Coastal Maine Campground is also the home of Excursions Sea Kayaking. The campground offers a pristine, natural Maine woods setting in the heart of the Southern Seacoast. For those of you who like the idea of camping and kayaking but also like modern bathroom facilities and hot showers, Dixon’s is the perfect fit. Campsites are spacious and well spaced allowing you plenty of room to settle in and enjoy your stay. The campground accommodates both tents and RV’s with water and electric hook-ups available. If you are interested in creating your own adventure, we offer several types of sea kayaks and recreational boats to choose from. These boats are great for a day trip on the ocean, the river or your favorite lake. All prices include paddles, lifejackets, spray-skirts, bilge pump and paddle float.

We specialize in designing custom adventures for groups of varying sizes, interests and expectations. We offer everything from coastal day tours to sunrise, sunset and moonlight excursions. In addition to great paddling and exploring, our food packages add just the right touch. Coffee and muffins or wine and cheese – picnic lunch or barbeque – or maybe you would like to experience a good ol’fashioned downeast lobster bake? You decide – great food, great fun, great company. Overnight Adventures – Join us for a weekend getaway that will be the highlight of your summer. Our paddling destination includes the picturesque islands and pristine rivers of Maine’s Casco Bay Region. We will spend two days paddling and exploring and one unforgettable evening relaxing and camping on a remote Island. All meals are provided by us, so kick back and enjoy as your guide prepares delicious food around the campfire and entertains you with tall tales and the art of stretching the truth. We will provide all the necessary paddling equipment, camping gear and transportation. Just bring your personnel gear, spirit of adventure and a few tall tales of your own!Overnight trips for custom groups of 6 or more can be scheduled anytime throughout the season. Family Trips and Individual Lessons

Coastal Explorer – This half-day trip is scheduled daily and is the perfect trip for beginners and advanced paddlers alike. Conducted at a leisurely pace, we usually manage to cover 3 to 5 miles of interesting coastline. We provide all the equipment you’ll need as well as transportation to and from our launch site. Launch sites vary daily depending on wind, weather and tides. A registered Maine Guide will lead your trip and insure that everyone gets the attention necessary for a successful and enjoyable outing. SK101 Clinic – This four-hour clinic is designed to provide a thorough introduction to the basic skills needed to enjoy the sport of sea kayaking. We will begin by discussing kayak design, equipment, proper clothing and safety issues. You will learn fundamental paddling strokes and braces so that you can maneuver your kayak with ease and confidence. You will also learn how to safely wet exit your boat during a capsize, as well as self-rescue techniques used to re-enter your kayak. There will be plenty of opportunity to review techniques with your instructor and ask any questions you may have. This class is open to participants 16 yrs and up. Private Lessons – For those who want more individual attention private lessons may be scheduled on request.

Cost: $50 per hour (2 hr minimum)

Meet the Guides

Two Generations of Registered Maine Guides

Mike Sullivan – Mike is the long time Director of the Town of York Parks and Recreation Department and the owner of Dixon’s Campground and Excursions Sea Kayaking. He is a Registered Maine Recreation and Sea Kayak Guide and an avid outdoor recreation enthusiast. A consummate outdoor recreational professional with years of experience, his passion for the outdoors is inspiring and contagious.
Sarah Sullivan – Sarah is a graduate of Humboldt State University in Arcata, California. A Registered Maine Sea Kayak Guide and Wilderness First Responder she has guided in Alaska, California and of course the Coast of Maine. Sarah’s compassion for the environment and “leave no trace” guiding technique is an example for everyone to follow.
Whitney Sullivan – Whitney is a graduate of East Carolina University. She is a Registered Maine Sea Kayak guide and certified Yoga Instructor. Whitney has toured the Outer Banks of North Carolina as well as our precious coast of Maine. An avid hiker, snowboarder, yogi and kayaker, Whitney’s vibrant outgoing personality is a trip of its own..
Kate McGowan – Kate has enjoyed her summers on the Maine coast for the past ten years. When the summer winds down and the snow begins to fall, that is her sign to pack up and head west for a long winter of shredding the west coast pow! Kate’s patients and remarkable ability to teach, provides a comforting environment for all level paddlers.
Chelsea McGowan – Chelsea is a student at the University of Maine Farmington studying International Studies. She is a registered Maine guide who enjoys her summers on the east coast of Maine. She is an avid skier and an all around outdoor enthusiast. Chelsea’s good humor allows for everyone to loosen up and enjoy Maine’s spectacular coastline.
