Planetarium Show Tickets: 

FREE Plus Level members, children 2 and under $5/per person per show add-on to General Admission

Tickets sold until 10 minutes prior to show time. No late admission or re-admission to theater. The Discovery Center reserves the right to change shows and programming. MC and VISA accepted. Gift certificates available!

Observatory

Open daily 1-4 PM and 1st & 2nd Friday evenings 6:30-9 PM, weather permitting.

The observatory dome houses a Celestron 14″ Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope mounted on a Celestron PRO computerized mount with a wide array of filters, imagers and eyepieces that will enable you to experience the thrill of bringing faraway moons, planets, nebulae, clusters, galaxies etc. right into view, up close and personal. There is also a 100mm Lunt solar telescope, specially designed for observing the Sun in great detail with removable filters that allow for sunspots and other solar activity to be observed safely during the day.

School Field Trips – Camp groups – Scout groups

We LOVE Groups! Each year groups of all ages visit the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center, from Students on their next School field Trip and Scouts earning their next merit Badge to Summer Camp Groups immersing in the world outside ours! We offer exciting programs for all ages ranging from Super Stellar Friday workshop series to Aerospacefest – our annual aerospace festival – to a workshop called Little Explorers for 3-4 year olds to aviation ground school. There is something for everyone at the Discovery Center

Groups of 15 or more qualify for our general group discount rate of $7 per person and can add a Planetarium show for an additional $5.

You have the choice of booking just a single room to the whole center overnight. You and your guests can have an all exclusive access to exhibit halls, conference room, function room, Unitil Program Center, observatory, and state-of-the-art planetarium theater.

Overnight Programs

Enjoy an evening under the stars with an Overnight Adventure! The program includes guided exhibit exploration, hands-on activities, planetarium show, evening snack, and visit to the observatory featuring telescope viewing (weather permitting).

Check-in time is 6 PM; check-out time is 9:30 AM. Enjoy a light breakfast in the morning and visit the Science Store! Everyone receives a special Overnight Adventure patch!

Most Overnight Adventures are scheduled from Saturday night to Sunday morning. We also have some Friday night to Saturday morning availability, and other days may be available upon request.

Overnights are great for Scout Groups; school class trips and other youth and adult groups are also welcome!

Cost is $50 per person, with one free adult leader. At least 45 participants or a minimum payment of $2,250 for smaller groups is required to run the program.

The Discovery Center offers workshops ranging anywhere from the age of 3 to adults. Come in an discover our Little explorers workshop or Rocketeers. Our workshops are designed to encourage learning in and outside the classroom in the subject of Science and Space exploration.

Teen Programs

The Discovery Center hosts a variety of Programs and Workshops that are designed just for Teens age 13 to 19!  Asides from all the offerings including a visit to center, we have programs that are going to stimulate your mind the world of space exploration that is sure to educational and fun! 

Teen Night Club

Come and mingle with other teens at the Teen Night Club. Held every 2nd Friday of each month at 7 PM. Topics do vary. Pizza and soda provided at no extra charge.

For Parents

Please pick up teen by 8:45 PM if they don’t drive. For ages 13-19 only. $9/Teen.

Astronomy Bowl

The Astronomy Bowl is a statewide competition for high school students to compete by answering questions about constellations, planets, stars, and other objects projected in the Discovery Center’s state-of-the-art planetarium. The awards and scholarship money are formally presented during our Aerospacefest event. The winners will also receive special recognition at the State House from the Governor and the members of the Executive Council. Learn how to participate in the next Astronomy Bowl!

Space Camp Scholarships

Apply to Fly! Learn more about this fabulous program that honors the life of Alex Higgins by providing New Hampshire children the opportunity to attend Space Camp.

Summer Camps 

Love space? Summer Camps offer an exciting hands-on adventure that teaches astronomy, aviation and Earth science in a practical environment. Seven camps are offered each year with new topics and activities. Space is limited! To avoid disappointment, advance registration is recommended to this program at the Discovery Center in New hampshire.

Professional Development

Download the 2013-2014 Educator’s Guide to the Universe (4.7MB pdf format) Professional Development Targeting NH State Science Frameworks and NECAP assessment, the topics of our professional development workshops will assist you in your efforts to be well informed with content knowledge and practically equipped to teach these required topics.Professional development workshops are offered on the third Wednesday of the month in November 2013 and January, March, and May 2014 from 9 AM to 3:30 PM. The workshop fee is $100. You may bring your own bagged lunch or purchase a lunch at NHTI. Graduate credit is available through Plymouth State University for an additional $185 per credit plus a $30 one-time per term registration fee.
